Day 1: Tour Start – Vancouver
Arrive in Vancouver and spend time exploring this scenic city on your own. Overnight in Vancouver.

Day 2: Vancouver to Kamloops
Travel onboard your “traincation” from the coastal city of Vancouver to Kamloops. You will see dramatic changes in scenery, from the lush green fields of the Fraser Valley, through forests and winding river canyons surrounded by the peaks of the Coast and Cascade Mountains, to the desert-like environment of the British Columbia Interior. Highlights include the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon and the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River. Overnight in Kamloops.

Day 3: Kamloops
Your “traincation” adventure continues north and east to the mighty Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta. Highlights include Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, Pyramid Falls, and the climb over the Yellowhead Pass into UNESCO Jasper National Park.

Day 4: Experience UNESCO Highlights Tour
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Canadian Rockies’ largest national park. Enjoy a scenic half-day tour of some of the park’s natural attractions and rugged peaks. The remainder of the day is free to explore.

Day 5: To Lake Louise Tour
Travel along the Icefields Parkway to Lake Louise. A stop will be made at Athabasca Falls before arriving at the Columbia Icefield, where you will ride on an Ice Explorer to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier. Afterwards, a stop will be made at Bow Lake. Overnight in Lake Louise.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES: Ice Explorer – 3 hours
Tour the Athabasca Glacier in a giant six-wheel drive Ice Explorer vehicle while your guide explains the history of this ancient glacier and points out interesting geological features. Think of it like a “monster-truck meets glacier” adventure where you learn new things!

Day 6: Experience Yoho Park Tour, Lake Louise to Banff
This morning explore beautiful Lake Louise on your own. After lunch, a half-day tour takes you into Yoho National Park to view some of its natural wonders including the Spiral Tunnels, Emerald Lake, and a natural rock bridge that spans the Kicking Horse River. Afterwards, you will be transferred to Banff. Overnight in Banff.

Day 7: Experience Banff to Calgary Tour
Enjoy a full-day tour concluding in Calgary. Begin with a sightseeing tour of Banff, including Bow Falls, Lake Minnewanka, Surprise Corner and the Hoodoos. A trip on the Banff Gondola is included. Continue on to Kananaskis for a Summit Helicopter Tour. Overnight in Calgary.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES – Banff Gondola – 2 hours
Climb Sulphur Mountain in a record-breaking eight minutes and get a bird’s-eye view of six mountain ranges. Sorry, did we say ‘climb’? We mean ‘ascend in style’ in your fully enclosed four-passenger gondola cabin! Phew! If you’re keen to break in your hiking boots, try the 1-kilometre self-guided walk along the summit ridge and keep your eyes open for bighorn sheep and various bird species.

Your vacation ends with checkout from your Calgary hotel and a flight home.

I accompanied a group of 12 to Alaska this past summer. We flew into Seattle, saw some of the sights, and then flew to Juneau to start our Adventure Cruise. What a wonderful Adventure.
