Trip Highlights

• Visit a rural agricultural community in the Sacred Valley, observing the weaving and cultural traditions of the Andes; 2 days
• Gaze up at the southern sky through powerful telescopes at the Cusco Planetarium.
• Visit the Inca ruins of Pisac, and take in the splendor of Machu Picchu with a local guide; 2 days

Itinerary – 6 Days

Day 1 — Lima:  Arrive at any time. Arrival transfer included.

Days 2 & 3 — Sacred Valley of the Inca:  Board an early flight to Cusco, then continue to the Sacred Valley of the Inca. Tour the G Adventures-supported Parque de la Papa, or Potato Park, a network of rural agricultural communities working to preserve more than 700 species of potatoes. Learn about potato cultivation and traditional weaving, and the importance of each to Andean culture. Next, explore the Pisac ruins and visit the G Adventures-supported Sacred Valley Community Restaurant in the village of Huchuy Qosqo. Discover the pre-Inca salt pans of Las Salineras. Enjoy a traditional pachamanca-style meal.

Day 4 — Aguas Calientes:  Catch an early transfer to Ollantaytambo station and board the scenic train to Aguas Calientes. Opt to visit the town’s hot springs, butterfly house, or botanical garden.

Days 5 & 6 — Machu Picchu/Cusco:  Enjoy a guided tour of the Machu Picchu ruins. Then explore on your own or take an optional hike to the Inca Bridge. Later, return to Cusco by train. Spend the next day exploring historic Cusco, with options to visit museums or go horseback riding or paragliding. This evening, glimpse the night sky through the telescopes of the Cusco Planetarium.
