Boston was given its name in 1630 by Massachusetts Bay Colony’s first governor, John Winthrop, who named it after his hometown, Boston in Lincolnshire. The name was popular with Bostonians from the start, since many of them were also from the Lincolnshire region of England.

Fenway Park:  If you’re an avid baseball fan, even if you’re not, this tour is a must do. You get a great inside perspective of the country’s oldest stadium with tons of information. The tour takes you behind the scenes and the history about the ball park. Standing on top of the Green Monster and looking out over the field is great!  On the tour, you get to sit atop the Green Monsta, see the visiting locker rooms, sit in the historic oak and iron seats, visit their museum of memorabilia, and sit in the press boxes. Great tour at a very unique and historic MLB park.

Freedom Trail:   The Freedom Trail is a great way to see the fantastic city of Boston on foot. It visits most of the historic sites in Boston and is the perfect way to build up an appetite for a feast of lobster and clam chowder!  The Freedom Trail is done at your own speed and see what you want. Plan on several hours though. See Paul Revere’s house, his grave. See Mother goose grave and Benjamin Franklin’s parents graves next to Paul Revere’s church.  You can go to the Old North Church, through Haymarket, all around the North End.  This is the whole reason to come to Boston. This is where it all started. If you don’t do this you are missing this country’s history.

Site of the Boston Massacre:  In March 1770. As part of the revolution, the story of sordid killing of five male civilians and injured six others who were killed by British Army soldiers. Patriots Paul Revere and Samuel Adams took this chance to stir the public to gain support for a revolution. This review is not a story about history but a brief background of what happened and where it took place. The place where it happened is in front of the building where the declaration of independence was first read. There is a large circular landmark in front of the building to signify its importance in history. This building is the place where the declaration of independence was originally read. Part of the Freedom Trail.

Old City Hall:  The Old City Hall is a national landmark located on School Street. The present building was constructed between 1862 and 1865 in French Second Empire architectural style, one of the first such examples in America. This is nice to see as are some of the monuments in the courtyard in front of the building.  This is the sight of America’s first public school, the Boston Latin School between 1704 and 1748. You can see a nice mosaic plaque along the School Street footpath in front of the Old City Hall. One of the school’s first students, Benjamin Franklin is recognized with a monument here as well.  There is fellow statue to Boston’s second Mayor Josiah Quincy that is worth seeing as is the bronze donkey seen here. Created by Florentine sculptor Antonio Frilli. Part of the Freedom Trail.

Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum: A totally loved the museum and peripherals. Very interactive and exciting. Guides did an amazing job of immersing you in the history of the 3 sons of Liberty.  Lunch after is Offered and the Seating area is bright and cheery and again, the guides, do an amazing by answering questions and teach children about Boston’s history. This is a Fun historical tour, with a great job by the personnel. Excellent story-telling re: the Boston Tea Party and the events leading to the Revolutionary War. Museum part is very well done.  A must see if you are interested in the American revolution.

John F. Kennedy Presidential Museum & Library:  The JFK Library is a fantastic museum! With its unique exterior look and location on the water, you have amazing views before even getting to the meat of the museum. A great video introduces you to JFK’s ascension to the presidency and the museum presents a picture of the Kennedy’s from early life to the impact JFK had even after his death. Part of the museum is modeled after the White House and visitors learn information about Jackie Kennedy, RFK, and other elements of the family and their lasting impact.  From the five-story view of the ocean to JFKs small PT boat from WWII you will appreciate the making of a great American who became president.

King’s Chapel:  The building dates to the 1700s, but is still an active religious community today. The church is lovely with private pews, an elevated pulpit and the oldest organ in an American Church. There is a self-guided tour available, with lots of explanatory signage along the way. Climbing the stairs up to the bell tower to see the largest Paul Revere bell ever made was only one of the many highlights to this tour!  Climbing the stairs up to the bell tower to see the largest Paul Revere bell ever made was only one of the many highlights to this tour! Part of the Bones and Bells Tour.

    TravelKatz® Vacation Testimonials

I accompanied a group of 12 to Alaska this past summer.  We flew into Seattle, saw some of the sights, and then flew to Juneau to start our Adventure Cruise.  What a wonderful Adventure. We saw glaciers, hump-back whales and other fascinating things...we would do this again. Thank you for such a great time!

    Sandy H, St Petersburg, FL

I cannot begin to tell you what a wonderful job you did organizing our trip. It absolutely was the best vacation I have ever had. This was my first time over seas and what a wonderful experience. Thank you so much for all your hard work. I am going through “James” withdraw today. He was an amazing tour guide and fit in so well with our group. I will definitely recommend you if I know of anyone thinking of going over to Ireland. Your country is so beautiful and everyone is so friendly. I can’t thank you enough for everything.

Jack & JoAnn Douglass, Miami, FL

I appreciated all the information that was given before I left on the trip. Our Guide, Jerry filled in all the other interesting information on what to expect. I felt safe, well feed and learned so much from a trip 45 mins from USA…I want people to see the beauty of the country, the people and their wonderful culture. I so loved the music. I am playing the CD’s often that I bought from the musicians. A trip I would like to do again. Thank you.
